Abstract

The author analyzes the views of N. I. Pirogov, K. D. Ushinsky and L. N. Tolstoy on the problems of teacher preparation and teacher personality requirements. The article considers the influence of beliefs and works of those thinkers on the formation of a humanistic paradigm of education in Russia at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. Particular attention is paid to teacher training at the universities and female teacher education.
